Today, a language workshop titled “The Language That Disappears: Not While I’m Here!” was held at the Prnjavor high school, aimed at secondary school students, on the occasion of the school’s 65th anniversary. The workshop highlighted the importance of preserving one’s own language as well as the languages of national minorities, which represent a cultural richness for the local community, known as the “Little Europe.”
During the introductory part, participants learned more about language in general and the position of national minorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the core of the workshop focused on practical work with audio recordings of the Stivor dialect, within the Stivorling language archive. The event also marks the beginning of collaboration between the Prnjavor high school and the Faculty of Philology, which will include joint activities with students.
The organizers emphasize that language is the guardian of history, identity, and culture, and that its preservation depends on collective commitment and passing it on to future generations.
